I stood in front of my full length mirror, turned my hips, lifted my shoulders, turned my head, pinched my lips...and I looked a hot mess.
I was preparing to take my bridal photos. I had an amazing photographer who I knew would coach me, but let's be real, I wanted to be prepared.
I didn't want to look like a bumbling buffoon.
This is a concern for most brides and grooms (they just won't admit it). I feel you.
My job as a photographer is to help you look your best. And you will.
Yet, in case you are like me and just want to practice in your room, here are some tips to looking your best in your photos!
- Roll your shoulders back. This automatically makes you look slimmer and polished. Can I get an amen???
- Smile. With teeth! Sometimes we worry too much about looking editorial that we forget to do what we do best, smile. This makes your body look natural and lights your face up like no other.
- Keep your booty in the back. This is something that your photographer knows how to do, but you can practice pivoting your hips to where most of your posterior assets are pointing behind you instead of towards the camera. This keeps you from looking like the young sorority girl in her cell phone pics!
- Keep your head up. If you are like me when you smile your body curls. I particularly look like a turtle. This is something that I have to work on too! You don't have to stick your head out just softly raise your gaze toward the camera.
As much as I think they should be, not one of my clients have been professional models. That means they are just like you and they came out looking like pros! You can too!
I hope this post helped you in preparation for some stunning photos.
